The Pale-Billed Woodpecker is a common species of large woodpeckers that’s a resident of Northern Mexico and Western Panama. These birds typically nest among trees in wet forests and semi-open woodlands, and feed on insects and other small creatures found in the bark of trees. They have a very distinctive appearance, with thin, stiff beaks, a bushy head of bright red feathers, and a black plumage with two white lines running the length of its back.
