The national bird of India is without doubt the most spectacular creature in the animal kingdom. Its brilliant plumage shimmers as the bird moves in the light, one moment appearing blue, and the next a curious shade of green. But what gives the peacock its extraordinary reputation is its tail. Longer than the bird itself, the peacock spreads its tails behind it in a mating dance, creating an almost divine halo nearly ten feet across. The tips of their long tail feathers shaped like a glittering eye, a symbol associated with the Hindu god Krishna who wears the feather in his hair.
