Description
A central figure in Mesoamerican mythology, the Resplendent Quetzal earns its flattering epithet from its iridescent red and green feathers that seem to shift colours in the light. Perhaps the most recognisable feature of this bird is its long, twisting tail that look like locks of hair streaming from its back, as long as the bird itself. The Resplendent Quetzal is the national bird of Guatemala, and is featured prominently in the country’s flag and coat of arms.
