Since it was discovered in the 1890s, the Tyrannosaurus Rex has been an icon among dinosaurs. Teeth like daggers, the baleful cast of its skull conjured in people’s minds the image of a terrifying, unrelenting apex predator. And yet, none of the popular media it featured ever showed it as it truly was — a creature of the forest. For the T-Rex, so long understood to be a tyrant of the Cretaceous Age, was nevertheless a part of the ecology, inextricably linked to the world it inhabited.
