Description
Woodblock printing is a traditional technique of decorating cloth that originated nearly 2000 years ago in China. The wooden printing block is carved in an intricate relief pattern that, when dipped in dye, is pressed onto the cloth gently, imprinting a perfect mirror image of the carving onto cloth. This piece features a floral crest in white and blue, set against a white background. One could imagine these prints being pressed into fine linens and cotton fabric and woven into flowing dresses and swirling skirts.
