Description
To many of the working-class men of the 20th-century, their identities were built around the place they worked, the booze they drank, the cigarettes they smoked. The matchsticks they used were no different. Matchbox designs of that era were deliberately stylised works of art, made with the purpose of catching the eye and creating a distinctive brand that you could make your own. The pegasus, a mythical creature of skies, was thought of as a symbol of good fortune and hope, and an image quite unlike anything else.
