The Fritillaria imperialis is a plant from the lily family native to parts of Afghanistan, Iran and Iraq. It gets the name ‘Crown Imperial’ from the iridescent golden flowers encircling the tall, slender stalk like an emperor’s crown. The plant’s distinctive appearance has made it a favorite of people throughout Western Asia.
