Description
The Passiflora, or Passion flower, is one of the most distinctly alien-looking flowers in existence anywhere in the world. Its large, pink petals encircle a central corona of small blue and white protrusions like a tentacles of a tiny jellyfish. In the 15th and 16th centuries, the Passiflora took on a Biblical symbolism as Spanish Christian missionaries attributed its various distinctive parts to the last of days of Jesus. It’s from the passion of Jesus that the flower got its name.
