When Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier was tasked with designing the utopian city of Chandigarh, India, it was his cousin Pierre Jeannerret who designed the furniture for the residents. Among his many designs was the Chandigarh Chair, an elegant, simple construction that was modern, distinctly post-colonial in its flavor. It was built to be sturdy, easy to produce, and able to gracefully blend into any interior setting. The timeless design of the chair has prompted a resurgence in its popularity these past few years, with old chairs from Chandigarh being auctioned to Hollywood celebrities and repurposed in their homes.
